ARIAN, FRSC to create insurance awareness among motorists

President, Association of Registered Insurance Agents of Nigeria, Mr. Gbadebo Olamerun
The Association of Registered Insurance Agents has said it is partnering the Federal Road Safety Corps to increase insurance awareness and improve safety in the state.
The National President, ARIAN, Mr. Gbadebo Olamerun, said this when he led a delegation of the association on a courtesy visit to the office of the Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone RS2, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Nseobong Akpabio, in Lagos.

He also disclosed that the association would organise a road show on insurance awawareness in Lagos next month.
“A lot of motorists still do not know that there are lots of benefits in taking the minimum third party insurance that can provide claims to the tune of a million naira for the third party if there is an accident,” he said.
He said that partnership with the FRSC would go a long way in creating the necessary road safety awareness. Akpabio said the FRSC was joining insurance companies to educate Nigerians generally on insurance and road safety.
“The role of insurance companies in ensuring road safety is enormous. If more insurance companies can partner the FRSC in creating awareness, drivers will be able to know they can get claims if they have cover and people are benefiting from it,” he said.

Akpabio observed that many motorists were ignorantly taking fake papers as insurance certificates with names of non-existing companies.
According to him, the FRSC was working with the insurance sector to maximise the potential in the Nigerian Insurance Industry Database introduced by the NIA.
With the NIID, he said that car owners could verify the genuineness of their insurance cover because all registered insurance companies and insured cars could be found in the data base.
