Cornerstone Insurance, FRSC in joint safety campaign

Cornerstone Insurance Plc has partnered the Federal Road Safety Corps Zone 2, Lagos to introduce a project aimed at reducing student-related casualties on roads leading to school.
According to a statement on Sunday, the campaign tagged “Safe Route to School”, is a corporate social responsibility initiative of Cornerstone and it focuses on the provision and maintenance of safety infrastructure in different parts of the Lagos metropolis.

While speaking at the opening ceremony of the campaign road show in Lagos, the Group Managing Director, Mr. Ganiyu Musa, said as a company, which takes pride in operating ethically and transparently in order to earn the confidence and trust of its stakeholders, Cornerstone Insurance was pleased to continue in a life-saving journey it started three years ago with a credible institution like the FRSC to constantly pursue innovative ways to respond to the society’s biggest safety challenge.
Musa, who was represented by the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Ayo Osunbunmi, said there had been a deep concern about the soaring rate of road crashes in the country involving school children.
He cited a recent survey, which showed that at least a child got knocked down every day by unwary drivers on school roads.
About 80 per cent of such accidents were linked to lack of adequate road signs and recklessness of drivers, he said and stressed the need for decisive actions to save lives of the kids.

Cornerstone Insurance said through the campaign over the last one and a half years, it had provided zebra crossing and illuminating children crossing signs along some roads in Lagos.
The company stated that it had also significantly invested in the training of school appointees as institutional safety officers.
